The Journeyer: Spring 2018

DID YOU KNOW: With 32 countries, more than 70 percent of the Caribbean was unscathed by the recent storms. We’re happy to report that recovery efforts are well underway in places like Puerto Rico, the British Virgin Islands, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Plus, more than 50 of our preferred resorts are ready to welcome you in destinations like nearby Bahamas and Turks and Caicos Islands, as well as Aruba, Grenada, and St. Lucia.

Is chartering a yacht as exciting (and simple) as it sounds?

A private yacht vacation is one of the best travel secrets out there. You’ll enjoy an A-list experience — seemingly plucked from the pages of a magazine — at an exceptional value when you share it with family and friends.

This style of travel is ideal for a family vacation across generations, a milestone birthday or a gathering of girlfriends. We’ll walk you through the entire experience and match every detail to you. Perhaps that means skimming in a sailboat through the Caribbean Sea, propelled by steady trade winds. Or maybe you picture yourself leaping off a catamaran into the waters of the Tuamotu islands, returning aboard for a French Polynesian feast. In Europe, you’ll access small harbors that larger ships cannot reach.

While we can craft a trip around your interests — like a culinary exploration or a diving-themed vacation — your day-to-day experiences are all about flexibility and freedom. A personal chef can stock all your favorite items before you even board and still create meals inspired by what’s fresh in your destination of the day. After a morning of snorkeling, you may decide to spend the afternoon sunning yourself on the deck. Your captain, armed with intimate knowledge about these waters, can guide you toward a deserted atoll or lead you to the best spot for fishing or snorkeling.

With each new discovery, you’ll create long-lasting connections in every destination and strengthen bonds with your loved ones.

Prefer to experience the five-star lifestyle on land? We can reserve a villa vacation — complete with a private chef and personal staff — from Jamaica’s beaches to the hills of Tuscany.

Hotels & Resorts

Built-In Fun Beyond the Beaches

We mean it when we say “family-friendly.” Your stay at The Reef Atlantis includes access to a 141-acre waterscape with 18 water slides and 11 pools, and you can view thousands of aquatic creatures that make their homes in the lagoons and cenotes of a marine habitat. At Now Amber Puerto Vallarta, hop on a Hobie Cat, laze in any of three heated pools and let the kids run free with guided activities.

Cinematic Stays: Part 1

In “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets”, Harry and Ron famously fly past King’s Cross Station in the Weasley family’s Ford Anglia. Here’s the real secret, though: that Gothic Revival façade is actually the nearby St Pancras Renaissance Hotel. Indeed, the Victorian landmark has appeared in numerous hit films, including “Bridget Jones’s Diary” and “Batman Begins”. A breathtaking restoration has elevated the hotel’s famous staircase to look grander than ever, while the underground spa provides an oasis of calm with its indulgent “journey” treatments — like a British garden-inspired scrub and massage. Skilled mixologists conjure up tasty potions behind the Booking Office Bar and Restaurant’s 100-foot-long bar; try the Elixir of Love punch before a romantic dinner in The Gilbert Scott restaurant with your complimentary $100 credit.

“The Lord of the Rings” trilogy enthusiasts can take a trip to Bilbo Baggins’ house in Hobbiton, the movie set featured in the popular films. Located in Matamata, New Zealand, about two hours from Auckland, “The Shire” set comprises 12 bucolic acres of rolling hillsides and hobbit holes; wander the meandering paths and grab a cold brew in the Green Dragon Inn before returning to the Sofitel Auckland Viaduct Harbour. This upscale lifestyle hotel exudes a chic, French sophistication with Juliet balconies in every room and a private marina on Waitemata Harbour; the interior water display absolutely dazzles at night. Apply your exclusive spa credit toward a decadent Greenstone Ritual at So Spa before enjoying the locally sourced fare at Lava Dining.

Rivers of Wellness

UnCruise Adventures is making it easy to slow down in America’s most stunning landscapes. Dedicated wellness hosts accompany you on an October voyage along the Columbia and Snake rivers. Enjoy easy access to hiking and swimming, plus guided beach yoga, meditation workshops and a side of Pacific Northwest wine tasting.

An Ocean of Possibilities

There’s truly no vacation like a Royal Caribbean® cruise on an Oasis Class ship. With so many “firsts at sea,” we could only capture a few of the most incredible highlights. You’ll just have to come see it for yourself!

  • The deepest pool at sea meets high-flying aerial acrobatics at the aquatheater. There’s literally no bad view in the house — especially from a balcony stateroom overlooking this incredible space.
  • Every balcony room has a view, whether you’re looking over the tranquil gardens of central park or the vibrant boardwalk. Or you can pick a room with a “virtual balcony” that displays floor-to-ceiling outdoor views.
  • Each day is a new adventure with epic boogie boarding and surfing on the flowrider® and zipping side-by-side down the 10-story ultimate abyss. Next up: skimming over the Boardwalk on a zip line.
  • They ate, they played and you relaxed. With my family time dining® in the main dining room, kids are served first before being whisked away to adventure ocean® activities while grown-ups get time alone. (A day at the spa isn’t bad either!)
  • When you’re not busy taking in a Broadway show or ice skating in Studio B, you’ll love exploring all the specialty dining restaurants on board: a mouthwatering churrascaria in Samba Grill, old-fashioned burgers and shakes at Johnny Rockets, and whimsical creations in Wonderland, just to name a few. Find your perfect space on your next Caribbean cruise, and ask us about a special dine drink discover package that includes complimentary dining experiences with select cabins.

Cinematic Stays: Part 2

The Austrian city of Salzburg is veritably synonymous with “The Sound of Music”. Countless fans have followed the von Trapps to movie locations across the vicinity, dancing to “Do-Re-Mi” around the fountain in Mirabell Gardens and visiting Nonnberg Abbey, where Maria married the Captain. Celebrate Austria’s most famous clan along with a stay in the only family-run and privately owned hotel in Salzburg: Hotel Sacher Salzburg. This luxurious property is set on the banks of the river Salzach, adorned with rich woods, silk-lined walls, antiques, and original artwork; enjoy complimentary dinner in the gourmet Zirbelzimmer restaurant, followed by a decadent slice of chocolate Original Sacher-Torte. At Hotel Goldener Hirsch, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Salzburg, there’s a country-house charm in what has been deemed one of the world’s first luxury hotels (dating back from 1407). A former goldsmith’s shop has been transformed into the atmospheric s’Herzl Restaurant, where you can taste regional dishes with your $100 food and beverage credit.

Generations of children have been inspired by Mowgli, the wolf-raised star of “The Jungle Book”. The beloved animated film was based on Rudyard Kipling’s classic collection of animal tales and inspired by the author’s own adventures in India’s Ranthambore National Park. Once a royal hunting ground, this region is now a designated tiger sanctuary and one of the best places on Earth to see the Royal Bengal Tiger in its natural habitat. Jungle safaris and other exclusive experiences are available at The Oberoi Vanyavilas, Ranthambhore, where guests find much more than the bare necessities. Set in 20 acres of landscaped gardens, 25 elegant and spacious tents blend seamlessly into their serene surroundings. Nestled amidst these are spa suites to enjoy rejuvenating therapies incorporating ancient Ayurvedic principles, aromatherapy and Western techniques by skillful therapists.

Poland: Envelope Yourself in Culture and New Experiences

The extraordinary Carpathian and the Sudety Mountains stretch in the south while the vast lowlands and uplands occupy the central part of the country. The northern part of Poland, comprising of Pomeranian and Masurian Lakelands contain beautiful forest scenery covered with hundreds of magnificent lakes. Still further to the north of Poland are the incredible sandy beaches of the Baltic Sea coast.

Polish agritourism farms are tempting with visitors with holidays amid unspoiled nature so you can find relaxation and peace of mind in simple, off the grid rural surroundings. More than a thousand farms provide not only accommodations but also delicious, homemade dishes often made with local, organic ingredients. Many of these farms organize workshops in folk arts and crafts as well as local excursions, mushroom picking, animal watching, fishing and horseback riding.

Discover the Living Culture of Peru

It’s the multiple layers of great civilizations that make Peru so intriguing. Wander around colonial cities preserving the legacy of Spanish conquistadors, visit the ancient Inca capital of Cuzco, explore the lost city of Machu Picchu and ponder the enigma of Nazca Lines.

Peru also has some of the most spectacular and varied scenery in South America. The Peruvian Andes are arguably the most beautiful on the continent and the mountains are home to millions of highland natives, who still speak the ancient tongue of Quechua and maintain a traditional way of life.

The verdant Amazon Basin, which occupies half of Peru, is one of the world’s top 10 biodiversity ‘hot spots’ – a species-rich area of tropical rainforest that will make your head spin when you start to learn about its ecology.

The coastal deserts, with their huge rolling dunes, farmland oases, and fishing villages, are under-appreciated by travelers but offer the opportunity to travel out of the box in a big way.

Cinematic Stays: Part 3

Ireland’s dramatic natural scenery is on full display along the Wild Atlantic Way. The 1,550-mile-long route has a starring role in “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” when Rey finds Luke Skywalker on precipitous Skellig Michael. The jagged, UNESCO-designated rock — home to a medieval monastery — also appears prominently in the latest film, “Star Wars: The Last Jedi”. Positioned on the Iveragh Peninsula in southwestern County Kerry, the Skellig Islands are accessible by boat or helicopter from your private countryside retreat at Sheen Falls Lodge. Here, you’ll have a relaxed start to each day with complimentary breakfast at The Falls Restaurant before breathing in invigorating Irish air on riverside walks and woodland strolls. We’ll also arrange a private tour of the lodge’s extensive wine cellar, as well as a ride through the idyllic little town of Kenmare in a vintage Buick. Ask us about reserving a waterfront suite to receive $100 in credit to enjoy the tranquil surroundings of Easanna Spa.
