Wellness Wednesday: Spas & Wellness in the Dominican Republic – Part 1

In this three-part series, Anywhere Anytime Journeys will focus on spas and wellness in the Dominican Republic – our July 2016 Destination of the Month.

First up is The Aman Spa at Amanera. Amanera derives its name from the word aman meaning ‘peace’ in Sanskrit and ‘era’ the word for ‘water’ in Taíno, historically spoken by the indigenous people of the Caribbean. Water is omnipresent and intrinsic in the design of AMANERA, which comprises 25 Casitas.

Inspired by the shamanic healing traditions of the Dominican Republic’s indigenous Taíno Indians, spa therapies use locally grown plants and herbs, as well as the Aman range of all-natural products. Massages, facials, scrubs and wraps join signature Spa Journeys as part of a holistic approach to well-being.

All Amanera body treatments include the option of smudging, which is the fanning of Palo Santo wood smoke over one’s body – a ritual traditionally carried out before any journey for a sense of a new beginning. Similar to frankincense and cedar, Palo Santo (“holy wood” in Spanish) is considered sacred. The clearing of the smoke symbolizes a connection to nature and a cleansing of body, mind and soul.

Next in our line-up is The Wellness Spa at Casa de Campo. Ranked by Forbes as “the largest and wealthiest Resort community in the world,” Casa de Campo is located in the southeast coast of La Romana, Dominican Republic.

The Casa de Campo Spa is heaven-inspired by native Caribbean roots. Using tropical essences, organic elixirs, aromatherapy, and the finest techniques given by internationally qualified spa therapists that will lead you on an extraordinary journey. They offer Ayurvedic, Naturopathic, and Nutritional treatments with a specialist Naturopathic Doctor.

A Golfer’s Massage is available. The masseur relaxes the muscles that are susceptible to strain and tension while playing golf. For this, they use golf balls.

You can even spend some quiet time in the spa’s meditation labyrinth garden.

Finally, we come to the Solaya Spa at Eden Roc at Cap Cana. Redefining elegance in the Dominican Republic, Eden Roc at Cap Cana, the only Relais & Châteaux hotel in the island, consists of 34 freestanding suites with private pools and stunning views.
